Welcome to the Band Department of Dickinson High School. The Instrumental Music Department at Dickinson High School enrolls 300 students from the 9th through 12th grades who study with a dedicated teaching faculty as well as private lesson instructors.

Director of Bands: Director of the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band
Mr. Braselton is in his 18th year in teaching and his 8th year as head director at Dickinson HS. In addition to conducting the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band, Mr. Braselton oversees the entire Dickinson Band program as well as teaches beginner brass classes at the Middle Schools.
Mr. Braselton holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Master of Music in Conducting degree from the University of Houston. While attending Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mr. Braselton served as the band’s president, was a member of the marching band and pep band and was principal trumpet for the Crusader Wind Ensemble. He also played on the UMHB men’s tennis team.
His teachers and mentors at UMHB include Dennis Hopkins, Carl Cooper and Coach Cohagen. During Mr. Braselton’s time at U of H, his mentors were David Bertman, Tom Bennett, John Benzer, and Eddie Green.
Mr. Braselton marched soprano bugle in 1999 with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, of Rosemont, IL.
Mr. Braselton continued his involvement in DCI by joining the staff of the Revolution Drum and Bugle corps from San Antonio, TX from 2001-2003. Revolution won the DCI Division III World Championships in 2002 as well the High Brass trophy that season.
In 2004-2005, Mr. Braselton also served as a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps’ brass staff and then joined the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle corps from 2006-2011.
Prior to returning to Dickinson High School, Mr. Braselton taught for five years in Pearland ISD, where he taught the freshman bands, marching band, as well as the beginner brass classes at Jamison, Sablatura and Rogers Middle Schools.
Mr. Braselton’s pride and joy is his family, his lovely wife Ashley, daughters Karsyn, Chandler, and Campbell, and dog Snowflake.
His bands have earned UIL Sweepstakes and he is a member of TMEA, TBA, and TSTA and serves on the UIL Music Advisory Committee.
Percussion Specialist, Assistant Director of Bands
Todd Sommer has been teaching for 17 years and is currently the director of percussion arts at Dickinson High School. He is starting his 11th year in the Dickinson Independent School District. Todd Sommer has taught at Conroe ISD, Klein ISD, Fort Bend ISD, and Cy Fair ISD.
Todd marched and aged out in the Cavalier Drum and Bugle Corps from 1994-1996.
Todd Sommer graduated from Sam Houston in 2000.
Assistant Director of Bands: Director of the Revolutionary Lyric Ensemble, Concert Band II
Mr. Wang is entering his 10th year teaching at DISD. In addition to directing the color guard, Mr. Wang directs the Concert 2 band and assists with other ensembles.
In 2008, Mr. Wang earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Studies from the University of Houston. Mentors during this time were Tom Bennet, David Bertman, John Benzer, Randall Griffin, and Eddie Green.
A huge fan of the pageantry arts, Mr. Wang marched one season with Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps, Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, and finally 2 seasons at the Bluecoats (2004-2005). Before starting his main career, he taught one season of drum corps with the Troopers.
On the indoor level, Mr. Wang has performed with Emblem 281, Fortitude, and one season with Code Black. Mr. Wang was also a director/staff member of Code Black from 2007-2009. The 2007 season saw a 1st place finish in Independent Open Class.
In 2013, Mr. Wang was invited to dance professionally with the City Dance Company in Houston.
Mr. Wang is supported by his super gorgeous wife Dena (professional photographer and artist), brilliant new daughter Juniper Lih Wang, dog Tai Mei, and an oversized veiled chameleon named Kiwi.
Assistant Director of Bands: Director of the Concert Band
Ronnie Pruitt is entering his 2nd year on the Dickinson High School band staff. Prior to coming to Dickinson, Ronnie taught at McNeil HS in Round Rock ISD as well as Ridgeview MS and Cedar Valley MS. Mr. Pruitt is excited for the opportunity to return DISD where he served as the band’s drum major in the 80’s. He later returned to DISD from 1991-1994 as an assistant director at McAdams Junior High and assistant marching band director for DHS. Mr. Pruitt has been involved with music education for over 25 years. During that time he has taught all levels of music including middle school, high school and collegiate courses.
Ronnie Pruitt currently serves the assistant brass caption head for the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. He has been part of winning multiple state marching titles in the state of Texas. He is in constant demand as a designer, clinician and adjudicator.
Free time is spent cooking and enjoying the outdoors. His wife, Paula, retired from education and is now serving as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines. Their daughter, Bailey, attends the University of Alabama.
